Free import

For 16 years old and over:
• 2 cartons of cigarettes and
• 2 l of alcoholic beverages.

Prohibited

• Live or dead animals and foodstuff from third countries where an epidemic has been present and has been included in a health risk list by Rwanda authorities (contact nearest embassy).
• Narcotics
• Arms and ammunitions
• Pornography
• Items infringing copyrights
• Environmentally unfriendly items (i.e. polyethylene bags)

Restricted

• Local currency – maximum of 5,000 of Rwandese Francs
• No limit on foreign currency but declaring compulsory.
• National residents must exchange any foreign currency up to 8 days upon return.

Free Export

• Local currency – maximum of 5,000 of Rwandese Francs.
• Foreign currency- the same amount when declared upon arrival.

Restricted

• When hunting in Rwanda, the trophy can only be exported with permission by a relevant authority. Please contact embassy prior travelling.

Basic health information for travelers to Rwanda

• Yellow Fever is present in Rwanda and all precautions need to be taken in order to avoid infection.

• Overall medical facilities in Rwanda are considered quite poor with very limited medical assistance. The city has limited medical and dentistry services but all facilities in the country may have only limited supplies. In the event of serious accident or illness an evacuation by air ambulance to Kenya or South Africa may be required.

Basic security information for travelers to Rwanda

• Incidents of petty crime such as pick pocketing and purse snatching are reportedly on the increase throughout the country and travellers are advised to keep their passport and other valuable items in a safe location at all times during their visit.

• All travellers are advised to against all travel to the rural border areas with Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), except to the towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu.
